Every child should be able to read and write and enjoy the magic that books have to offer.
BooksEast is committed to raising literacy attainment levels by offering an extensive engagement programme to schools. As part of this project, we are bringing writers and actors into schools to read to young people, talk about books and storytelling and to lead creative writing workshops in partnership with Ipswich Children’s Book Group, SE Ipswich Literacy Partnership: Let’s Talk Reading, and New Wolsey Theatre.
We want to bring exciting and dynamic writers into schools to deliver inspirational storytelling, reading, creative writing and develop cross-curricular activities to support teachers and their delivery of the national curriculum. 50 families from the participating schools will be invited to attend events during the Festival and be given books as mementos from Waterstones.
BooksEast is offering students in Years 5 and 6 (primary) and Year 7 (secondary) the opportunity to take part in workshops and have a visit by a professional writer, many of whom are taking part in the BooksEast Festival.
